The Back Story
While on a morning walk with Cassandra Coffee, I learned that GirlTrek, a national organization that she was a member of, would be coming to Kansas City later in the year to share their story and strengthen Kansas City membership. In anticipation of that visit, and the impact it could have on our city, I thought it would be “fun” to come up with some sort of fitness event, that would bring black women together and provide us with a ready list of women, that we could in turn invite to attend the GirlTrek event. By the time we finished the walk – we had an idea of hosting a fitness event that would highlight black fitness instructors AND bring interested black women together in support of health and wellness. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for GirlTrek. The visit was rescheduled and then ultimately cancelled, but Black Women Get Fit was launched and we strive to make it better year after year! We hope you enjoy the photo galleries over the years. Please support the instructors who said yes. Without their generosity, this event could have never happened!

"Any time women come together with a collective intention, it's a powerful thing. Whether it's sitting down making a quilt, in a kitchen preparing a meal, in a club reading the same book, around the table playing cards, or planning a birthday party, when women come together with a collective intention, magic happens." - Phylicia Rashad
